Immobilized
Given the opportunity to make a temporary piece at the Former Missouri State Penitentiary in Jefferson City, Json Myers and I co-created Immobilized, an installation using children’s bicycles in varying states of disrepair to speak of the relationship, current and future, that children with an incarcerated parent have to the criminal justice system. We then refurbished ten bikes and donated them to Big Brothers Big Sisters Amachi program which mentors kids with an incarcerated parent. This giveaway was timed for when the Tour of Missouri bicycle race went through Jefferson City. The aim was to not just speak about the negative impacts for a child with an incarcerated parent and limited resources, but to directly and positively impact those kids’ lives.
